What Does the Dentist Do to Install Braces?
Our dentist is skilled at installing braces so the process is smooth and efficient. He or she will clean and then dry your teeth so the bonding glue adheres to your teeth and to the brackets. After gluing the brackets to your teeth, our dentist runs the arch wire through the brackets and secures it with rubber bands. There is no pain involved, but your teeth may begin to feel sore when you get home. Our dentist will suggest OTC products that should take care of any temporary discomfort.
What Kind of Braces Can I Get?
The kind of braces you get depends on your preference and the orthodontic issues you have. You may need metal braces for severe corrections. Fortunately, they are not as uncomfortable as they once were. Ceramic braces, which are nearly invisible, can be white or clear. Invisible braces are removable clear aligner trays you wear for 22 hours a day, taking them out to eat and brush your teeth. You’ll receive a new aligner tray every two weeks to move your teeth incrementally.
Will Dental Insurance Cover Braces?
Dental insurance typically only covers braces for children, not adults, although coverage varies. During your consultation, you can ask our dentist, “How much do braces cost?” Typically, the severity of your alignment issues will determine the cost. The orthodontic appliance you select will also affect your cost. To help cover the cost of braces, we offer flexible financing to our patients.
How Long Is the Braces Installation Process?
Your appointment may last up to two hours. It’s not painful, but our dentist will explain that your mouth will probably feel sore for up to two weeks. Typically, OTC products can ease your discomfort, which will cease once you become used to having brackets and wires in your mouth.
Why Do I Have to Wear a Retainer After the Braces Come Off?
Retainers are essential for maintaining your teeth’s alignment. Our dentist will explain how long you have to wear the retainer full-time and when you can start wearing it just at night. Generally, you can choose from a permanent or a removable retainer. Call our office for a consultation with our dentist. We can help you have a nicer smile.
